Last updated: August 2026. This Privacy Policy explains how Eclipse Planner Tool ("we", "us") processes personal data when you use our website and progressive web app. We aim to comply with the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and applicable ePrivacy rules.

What we process

• Location you choose or share — coordinates from map clicks, search, or "Use my location" to calculate eclipse times, weather hints, and place names.
• Technical data — browser type, approximate usage for security and performance (service worker cache, offline assets).
• Cookie and consent choices — stored locally for location permission and, where applicable, advertising preferences managed through Google Privacy & messaging.

We do not operate user accounts or sell personal data.

• Consent — optional device location after our notice.
• Legitimate interests — delivering the eclipse map, security, and basic site operation, balanced against your rights.
• Legal obligation — where required to retain or disclose information.

• OpenStreetMap tile servers (map display)
• Open-Meteo (weather and elevation API)
• PeakFinder (optional horizon panorama when you open the line-of-sight profile)
• Nominatim / OpenStreetMap Foundation (geocoding, when used)
• Google (Google AdSense and related advertising technologies)
• Amazon and other merchants (only when you follow affiliate links)

Transfers outside the UK/EEA may occur where providers use global infrastructure. Appropriate safeguards (e.g. EU Standard Contractual Clauses) may apply depending on the provider.

Retention

Consent records and essential local storage persist until you clear site data or withdraw consent. Server logs at our host (if any) follow the host's retention schedule.

We may show third-party advertisements served by Google AdSense on the interactive map, guide pages, and safety content.
